Chris was elected to the state Assembly in August 2011 in a special election for former state Rep. Joe Parisi's seat. Almost immediately, she was redistricted into a new district, the 76thAssembly District, which includes the Isthmus and parts of the northside, downtown Madison, the University of Wisconsin campus and the near west side Vilas neighborhood.
Chris earned her law degree in 1995 from UW-Madison after receiving her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1990. Prior to serving as a state representative, Chris practiced law at several private law firms before becoming the public policy director for Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin.
Chris and her husband, Jim, a professor of History and Environmental Studies, live on the near east side of Madison, where Chris has lived for almost 25 years. They are the proud parents of two boys -- Sam, a fourth-grader, and Ben, a kindergartner. Chris and Jim are both actively involved in the community and enjoy traveling and spending time outdoors with their two sons.
Chris has a life-long passion for advancing human rights, and has had the opportunity to live around the world and the country doing so.
