Elected to serve the 6th District in 2006, Gary is the Ranking Member of the Assembly Committee on Renewable Energy and Rural Affairs and also serves on the Committee on Agriculture and the Committee on Workforce Development. During his first term, Gary served on four committees – Agriculture, Rural Affairs (vice chair), State Affairs, and Biofuels and Sustainable Energy.

Economic Development & Business Experience

  • Director, Badger AgVest, LLC – a first-of-its kind, statewide angel investing group that connects entrepreneurs and seed money investors, which increases the flow of capital into Wisconsin for value-added businesses
  • Former Director, M&I Bank–Shawano – a locally-controlled financial institution with more than $270 million in assets
  • Founding Board Member, Cooperative Resources International – a $120 million member-owned holding cooperative that markets products and services both nationally and internationally

  • Founding Board Member, Professional Dairy Producers of WI – PDPW provides educational programs, offers a forum for idea interchange, encourages a positive image for the dairy business, and promotes the profitability of the dairy business
  • Founding Board Member, WI Livestock Identification Consortium – WLIC is creating a secure, nationally compatible livestock identification system to protect animal health, and safeguard the economic infrastructure fueled by animal agriculture
  • Director, National Dairy Herd Improvement Assn. – DHIA works with USDA and other organizations to promote the accuracy, credibility, and uniformity of milk quality and production records
  • Chair, AgSource Cooperative Services – an $11 million, member-owned Midwest cooperative that provides milk production recording, milk quality analysis, electronic data access, management software, soil fertility analysis, forage nutrient analysis, global position sampling, payment milk testing for dairy plants, water analysis and food pathogen analysis
  • Member, National Animal Identification Task Force – developed national plan to upgrade the systems necessary for animal disease monitoring, surveillance, control and eradication in the United States

  • Dairy Discovery Trip – traveled to Denmark and the Netherlands to examine dairy technology and practices, and determine what could be applied to Wisconsin’s dairy industry; has also traveled to Great Britain, Germany, Scotland, Austria and New Zealand
