Work and School History
Nanette Bulebosh has had a passion for politics since her student days at Lakeland College, where she became active in student government. While still in college, she covered politics and local news as a part-time stringer for WHBL Radio, and worked at radio stations in Plymouth, Milwaukee and Colorado through 1986. She was a staff writer for the Sheboygan Press from 1990 to 1993. She’s had rewarding careers as a journalist, public and private school teacher, and librarian (she directed the Kiel Public Library for seven years), and has been a community volunteer for more than 30 years.
Voucher School Failures Increase Concern
Though Nanette has attended and worked in private schools, she is passionate about public education (K-12 and college) as a cornerstone of democracy and economic opportunity for all citizens. She taught English at Plymouth High School, was a school board trustee in Elkhart Lake, where she now lives, and has volunteered or substitute taught in many other local high schools. Nanette also worked as an adjunct instructor at the college level, at both public and private institutions. Most recently, Nanette directed an adult high school program in Milwaukee. The work was rewarding. She loved the students. But her concerns about voucher schools intensified after hearing of her students’ negative experiences with failed private voucher schools. The Legislature’s continued cuts to public education in favor of unaccountable voucher schools was a main driver of Nanette’s decision to run this past spring.
Nanette grew up in Mundelein, Illinois, and graduated from Mundelein High School, but has lived in Sheboygan County for most of the past 40 years. She has lived with her family in rural Elkhart Lake since 1995.
Nanette was elected to the Elkhart Lake/Glenbeulah School Board twice. As a trustee, she chaired the Community Relations Committee and initiated studies on district effectiveness, class sizes and educational programs. Previously, she served on the Sheboygan Area Voter ID Taskforce, the Little Red School House Board of Directors, and several local and state library committees. She currently serves on the Lakeland College Alumni Ambassadors Executive Committee and has been active in local theater for decades.
Previously she served on the Joint (Sheboygan & Ozaukee) County Library Planning Committee, Plymouth Public Library Board of Trustees
