Devin LeMahieu is committed to bringing common sense, conservative principles to work representing the 9th Senate District in Madison. As a small-business owner, former county board supervisor and active community member, Devin possesses the experience, perspective, and commitment to public service necessary to keep moving Wisconsin forward.
Devin was born and raised in Oostburg. He attended Oostburg Christian School and Sheboygan County Christian High School. Devin graduated from Dordt College with degrees in business administration and political science. Since 2002, Devin has owned and published the Lakeshore Weekly, a publication in southeast Sheboygan County with a circulation of over 4,500.
Serving the community has always been important to Devin. He is the past president of the Oostburg Kiwanis Club, and former member of the Oostburg Civic Pride Committee. Devin is a current member of the Oostburg and Sheboygan chambers of commerce. He is also an active member of Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Oostburg.
Devin also served his community as a member of the Sheboygan County Board for nine years. As a county board supervisor, Devin worked consistently to control county spending and accountability in local government during his roles on the Human Resources, Executive and Finance committees. This helped lead to property tax cuts while strengthening core services.
Devin was elected to the state Senate in 2014. As a legislator, he is best known for being a champion for fiscal responsibility, reducing and reforming the tax code, and improving government accountability. He also supported efforts to eliminate the state property tax, partially repeal the personal property tax, and reduce borrowing.
Devin was the lead author of the REINS Act, which brings new legislative oversight over state bureaucrats. This first in the nation legislation demonstrates the fresh ideas that are desperately needed in Madison.
Numerous citizen advocacy groups have recognized Devin’s efforts in the Legislature. Some of his key awards include:
Wisconsin Wildlife Association: State Conservation Legislator of the Year (2015)
Wisconsin Counties Association: Outstanding Legislator Award (2016)
League of Wisconsin Municipalities: Strong Municipal Supporter (2016)
