Nancy has spent several years working in nontraditional work roles. She was Marathon County’s (Rothschild) first female garbage collector. Hired in the summer of 1975 as college help, this was a time when women were very new to these roles. It wasn’t too much before this that she remembers her own mother coming home and announcing the women in the factory where she worked were finally paid the same as the men. It was not an easy time. Nancy has also worked as a motorcycle mechanic. She is thankful for those along the way who took a chance on her.
Anything Nancy can do to advocate for and empower people is what defines her. Nancy has worked and volunteered in Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault for many years and currently works in mental health. She states that “There is no greater satisfaction to me than watching someone rise up after you have given that dash of confidence! Your darkest hours can be your greatest periods of learning.”
Nancy feels it is important to give back to her community. She has a love for being out in the woods and can be found hiking around every winter on a set of snowshoes. Nancy has served as co-commissioner of Badger State Games snowshoeing. She, along with three other women, managed to turn the "Mountain Man" into the "Mountaineer" race, and Nancy holds many metals in this event. For many, many years as a member of the Friends of Rib Mountain, Nancy coordinated and laid course for the famed Candlelight Snow Shoe Hikes. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Friends of Rib Mountain, as well as serving as secretary.
Currently, Nancy serves as the first vice chair of the Marathon County Dems and formerly was their secretary. Nancy is also a member of the American Association of University Women, Middle Wisconsin, Jobs Now, Marathon County Labor Council, Central Wisconsin Voices (Think Tank), and the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Coalition.
It is an honor for her to say she is a 2012 graduate of the Emerge Democratic Leadership Training for women. Emerge is an intense training program that readies women for all aspects of running for public office.
Nancy's faith practices lie with the Universalist Unitarian Church in Wausau.
